England’s Gift To Americana Like one of her favorite artists, Australian Kasey Chambers, U.K. singer-songwriter Rachael Warwick is proving that Americana isn’t just for Americans. The single 'Mistake' taken from her six-song Anglo-Americana/Impressive album Maverick has reached the top 20 of the Best in Texas chart. Working with hit-maker producer Mark Moffatt, she’s now preparing to break through to the rest of the U.S. Asked about the positive reaction she’s received from radio, Warwick says, “I’m absolutely delighted — the DJs have been wonderful. It’s really quite humbling and much more than I expected.” Warwick, who characterizes her sound as much more Americana than country, nonetheless received two awards at this month’s recent U.K. Country Radio Awards. Having made Maverick in Nashville, she’s returning to Music Row at the end of March to cut more songs at Emerald Studios for her next album, and will then hit the road in Europe. “We have a tour coming up, including the Interlaken Festival in Switzerland and, hopefully, the Americana Festival in Nottingham.” Moffatt says, “Rachael called me last year to make some demos, which became the mini-CD. We brought in some session players we thought would fit and cut all six songs in one day. I was really impressed by Rachael’s work ethic, and she’s a great performer. Rachael had been looking for an opportunity here, and the feeling of inclusion from radio has been great; it’s not like ‘the Limey from across the pond’-type curiosity. Rachael’s website [www.rachaelwarwick.com] has had over a half-million unique visitors over the past several months, and it’s great to see her really building credibility. Once we find the right agent, we’ll start by developing the base she’s started in America.” John Schoenberger/Americana Editor 310-788-1666 Email: jschoenberger@radioandrecords.com
